Dear colleagues from the associations of musicians in Europe,
I’m Miguel Eek, a documentary filmmaker based in Mallorca. For 20 years I have dedicated myself to cinematographically portraying stories and people and their vital processes: where human rights, colonialism, mental illness, new masculinities, or creative processes have marked a large part of my work.

On this occasion, I’m part of the Musika Periferica project with a new film that I have been dreaming of for a decade: showing the hidden creative processes of three or four musicians from Europe. My goal is to live with the musicians for different periods from the end of 2022 to summer-autumn 2023. During this period, I am interested in showing the creative process as a playful and difficult moment, solitary and social, pleasant and painful, slow and frenetic, paying attention to everything that is not glamour or success to focus on the most human aspect of the musicians to be portrayed. Her private life, family conciliation, and the economy and inspiration are important aspects that sculpt the characters beyond the mere creator.

My way of working is direct cinema, slow filming, invisible but committed to who I am filming in order to make a deep but subjective portrait of the people with whom I will share this time. The territory of Europe is enormous and the possibility of finding those creators from the margins, who create in an honest and original way in diverse territories, climates, and cultures, is presented as a daunting task.
And this is where your help and advice in getting in touch with these musicians is essential to provide diversity and access to interesting people beyond the beauty of their music, but beautiful and fighters above all as human beings... who also consecrate their life or a good part of it to musical creation.
